The Magic of Thinking Big: Review
Here's my quick take:
One of the common themes I have seen with self-help/personal dev books is believing in yourself. Nearly every book I have read begins with the idea of believing in yourself. The reason is because if you don’t believe or if you don’t desire the thing, no one else will. At the end of the day, it’s personal development, not collective development.
David Shwartz goes on to provide us with great insight as to what we can do now, today, to begin thinking big. I really enjoy the last page of every chapter. It has a quick recap on the main points discussed in that chapter. I find myself going back through the chapters and reading the bullet points.
Schwartz begins the book with courage, belief, being fearless and other necessary tips to accomplish your goals. He then offers ways to create goals and ways to successfully accomplish them. He basically brings the psychological aspect of thinking big to light. The word here is “think” and we must begin to think a certain way before we can act a certain way. In order to accomplish big goals, to accomplish anything worthwhile in life, we need to think we can. Everything begins to take shape the moment we believe we can. This is a common theme throughout the book, and every chapter is a way for us to develop successful ways of thinking.
One of my favorite chapters is the chapter on “How to Think big.” In this chapter David shows us how small thinking creates negative images. Then he introduces the negative’s counterpart by offering positive phrases that create positive images. It’s a great reminder that the words we use on a daily basis also creates images in our minds. These images then create emotions, positive or negative.
When you read this book, you will begin to see situations differently. It will equip you with the necessary thinking in order to accomplish your goals. In short, how you think is everything. The Magic of Thinking Big will empower you to do just that.
