No Excuses! The Power of Self-Discipline: Review

5 Stars and here's why:

Brian Tracy will always do one thing with his books, lectures and any other outlet: give you practical advice that you can literally put into action today. I have caught myself several times throughout my read, putting the book down and taking action. For example, when he discussed ways to be self-disciplined with your finances, I immediately set aside a percentage of my check to my “Financial Freedom” savings account.

The overall theme of the book is to help you apply self-discipline to 21 of the most useful areas of your life. For example, he breaks it down into three parts. Self-discipline and self-control in the personal success realm, business, sales, and finances, and lastly the good life. Each chapter goes through subcategories within these three buckets. What I really like about the structure of the book is that each chapter includes a 7 point summary at the end. A very useful way to quickly review.
“The development of self-discipline is the high road that makes everything possible for you.” Ironically you need a little self-discipline in order to finish a book, let alone this one! So, how do we get the courage, the will-power, the drive to finish a book? Tracy reminds us that we humans all love to take the path of least resistance. We relish the path that is well known, and doesn’t affect our everyday life, negatively. This is the challenge we all must overcome. Practicing self-discipline is the way to do this.

If I could sum up the book with one idea it would be a quote he included from Elbert Hubbard. It reads: "Self-discipline is the ability to do what you should do, when you should do it, whether you feel like it or not." It’s such a great way to think about self-control in all areas of your life. Business and sales success is what I was after, but he gives practical advice for your everyday life. Areas such as with your children, relationship with your friends, spouse and others.

An overall great read for someone looking for easy to implement ideas today.
